Proposal Doc
At the start of college, I was unsure as to what role I would like to concentrate on and pressure in the film industry. After going through multiple productions and assignments in college, I have come to the conclusion that I really want to be a director and editor. In addition, I also firmly believe that I have gained a wider understanding of a majority of the other roles in the industry as well as learning lighting, sound and editing. I have now gained an understanding of directing, how to block a scene and how to communicate my vision clearly to other members of the crew so that everybody on it is on the same page and wants the same narrative outcome. Due to my passion for Directing, I will be directing the final major project, this is because I really admire the process of seeing a project develop to form a screenplay to a short film. I am going to challenge myself by working on new elements of film production, such as working with live animals and creating a period piece, which involves gathering many authentic props, costumes and locations. In the immediate future, I see myself pursuing directing at Norwich University of the Arts, and my long-term aspirations revolve around making many more short films and getting work in feature films and possibly directing one.
The main concept of my short film I am going to create follows a barbaric gunslinger who sacrifices his horse for an out of time electric guitar. The gunslinger, Ed, grows a close connection to the guitar which leads him to find peace within himself. In the end, Ed gives up his barbaric ways to hear a tune being played by the guitar. For research I am going to look into multiple sources that are helpful in improving and inspiring the project, I will use books, films and tutorials to research further into the western genre. The resources I will need for the project are locations, props, equipment, actors and crew. I can access the majority of these resources through college and my own personal knowledge. I have a variety of my own equipment that will be used in the film and I also have friends that I can contract for when it comes to casting the roles in the film. Throughout the entire production process I will constantly ask for feedback throughout, this is so that I can develop on the feedback and make the final film the best version it can be.
